Plaiderpillar

Shirt: Arizona Jeans Co., thrifted;
Pleated skirt: thrifted;
Shoes: gift, from Philippines.
How I've worn the skirt and shirt before: here, here.

I have some news. I left my retail job and started a new one this week -- I'm going to be working for a scribe/transcription service. I'm a little excited, in that it suits my editing/writing capabilities. Though it definitely isn't what I plan on doing forever (I mean, I'm only 23), it'll be a welcome change from the retail world, and will allow me some time to get ready to apply for graduate school again.

Another interesting thing about this job is that it is super-casual in terms of dress code. Because the staff is young and the job requires lots of time sitting in front of the computer, comfort is key and so sweatpants and flip flops are the norm. So on the days that I work there I'll pretty much have full reign of what I can wear, which is so exciting to me.

Anyways, here is what I wore Monday to my training session for the job. When I bought this skirt months ago, I had this exact outfit in mind, but only got around to creating it now. I really like the mix of the ruggedness of the outdoorsy plaid shirt and the sweet, ballerina qualities of the white pleated skirt. Definitely one of my favorite outfits, and it didn't take too much creativity to settle on it, because it felt very me. Maybe I'm still really obsessed about this week's "Mad Men" so that it's constantly what I think about, but for whatever reason, I feel like I look a little bit like schoolteacher Suzanne Farrell in these photos. She wasn't my favorite of love interests on the show (that would be Rachel Menken) but Suzanne did have a youthful style that I definitely admired.

I think I'm finally getting into the groove of my haircut, in that I barely have to do anything to get it to look decent. On the days that I wash it, it's very straight and a little blunt-looking, but on the second day the ends start to look a little curly, which is so close to my childhood texture. I stopped using products (except for a little anti-frizz serum) on it because I kept overdoing the amounts and my hair would end up looking stiff and overdone.

I hope you're all having a great week. The temperatures have dropped a bit since last week, so it's been a nice little reprieve from the eternal summer swelter that we've experienced in Georgia. It's still in the 80s but it feels pretty good -- hopefully a promise of a nice autumn?
